ABC 80 from Dataindustrier AB and Luxor
Welcome to my webpage about the Swedish 8 bit micro computer ABC 80. A well built Z80A based computer with a fast Basic interpreter that were 5-15 times faster than competitors of the time such as Apple II and Commodore VIC 20
It were introduced 47 years ago.and focus was to build computers to be used at home and within education, office and controlling applications.
.My interest in this computer comes from the fact that it was the very first computer I learned to program Basic language on back in 1983.
It was at boarding school where our teacher “P.P.” made the first lessons in “EDB” which can be translated to Electronic Data Processing.
I remember once where a Student were very focused in typing in commands, with his face close to the monitor. Suddenly smoke came up near the heatsink of the ABC 80 and he fell off his chair in sheer fright..
Today
-I have in 2024 started to collect and repair old micro computers from my past, so they can act as my own museum with fully working computers and a broad range of software.
My collection now :
Commodore 64 , Commodore Vic 20, Commodore Plus/4 and three pcs Luxor ABC 80.
The ABC 80 is the oldest of the computers and the jewel of my collection.
Dator 1 – i like the Swedish word for “Computer“
The picture below is my first ABC 80. It came with monitor and tape station
.This ABC 80 is currently not working. As you can see garbage characters are shown on the screen.
Shortly after i filmed this video smoke came out of the monitor and the sound of a exploded capacitors was heard. A black screen was shown.
I quickly shot down the power and will start investigating which component has been burning.
The garbage characters most likely is because of missing +5V . Properly due to a burned fuse and short circuit ef tantal capacitors.
Dator 2
This is my second ABC 80 and I do not know if it is functional ok but time will show.
It came without monitor but included a ABC832 dual disc drive and four pcb and a box with a backplane. The condition is much nicer than Dator 1.. i really like that is is born with Danish letters ÆØ and Å

I have got me fully working ABC 80 with standard monitor and a Tape station and a FD2 dual disc drive. I have only had one owner before me. More information will follow.
